ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - A lawyer says an American detained for allegedly collaborating with Kurdish militants has been deported to the United States. Lawyer Serkan Akbas says his client, Jake Hess, was deported on Aug. 20 after Turkish authorities speeded up the lengthy process.

ANKARA - AMNESTY International says the lawyer defending a woman sentenced to death by stoning in Iran has been released from a detention centre in Istanbul. Drewery Dyke of the London-based rights group says Mohammad Mostafaei is expected to travel to Norway in the coming days.

ANKARA - THE lawyer of an Iranian woman sentenced to death by stoning for adultery is in Turkey and has requested asylum, the UN refugee agency said on Wednesday. The lawyer, Mohammad Mostafaie, had been missing since July 24 when Iranian police went to his office to execute an arrest warrant and failed to find him.
